Bio

I was born in Kansas City, MO in 1978 (a good sports year for KC). A few years later, my parents (Karen and Gerald) moved to a suburb, Blue Springs, which is where I lived until my family moved to a suburb of Atlanta (Snellville) when I was 14. I came to know the Lord about two years before we moved to Georgia. I was attending a christian school in the KC-area and, there, for the first time heard the gospel through a preacher named Jerry Sivnksty (that’s way too many consecutive consonants). God graciously saved me from my sin that day in October, 1990. Not to sound overly cliche, but my life literally has never been the same since.

After my family moved to Georgia, I went back to the public school system, which was good for me and my faith. It pushed me. I often made sinful choices, but God’s chastening hand faithfully drew me back. It should be noted that my environment never made me sin. I had enough of it in me already!

By the time I was a junior in High School (Parkview HS), my dad and mom had both accepted Christ as their Savior and began challenging my Christian walk. Through their efforts and the help of my Youth Pastor, Paul Whitt, I began growing in grace more than I ever had.

It became clear that God wanted me to attend Bob Jones University in the fall of 1997. I did. And for the first few months, I hated it. For those of you who don’t know, BJU runs a tight ship. But in a good way. I wanted to graduate in three years to get out as soon as possible, but God convinced me I needed seminary training. So, after graduating with a BA in Christian Missions in 2001, I started grad work. During that time I met my wife, Danielle, and married her. She’s awesome, by the way. I never had sisters (just a brother – Kevin), and neither did she (2 brothers). So she understands me. And I suppose I understand her about as well as any guy can understand a girl.

Back to the bio . . . Danielle and I were married in the summer of 2004 and lived for the next four years in Greenville, SC. In 2003 I received an MA in Bible and in 2008 finished a Ph.D. in Theology (that same year Danielle received her MS in Counseling; we walked together at graduation, it was a great day).  We also got a dog. A Boxer named Dolly (my mom found her in Dollywood, TN, so really, we had no choice on the name). We then moved Blue Springs, MO (back home for me) where I spent two years at Tri-City Baptist Church as the Youth Pastor. While there we had a baby, Paton Elliott (5/21/2009). And God blessed us again on 2/22/2012 with a little girl, Charlotte Lea (I call her Charlie).

In January of 2010, I was informed of a pastoral opening here in Eden, UT. God confirmed His choice of this ministry over and again. And we are so thrilled to be here. The Valley is something to behold – so much beauty. And our church family is simply fabulous. God has blessed us over and again. Please pray that we would see many folks from the Valley come to know the Lord through our church’s faithful gospel testimony.
